 STRESS MANAGEMENT

Leading a stressful life, as many of us do in today’s world, can jeopardize your health and bring you to the very edge – physically and mentally. Stresses and tensions in the body and mind prevent you from functioning efficiently and put you at risk of various stress related illnesses. But you can effectively manage stress by learning how to relax, how to become more aware of you breathing and more sensitive to the body’s signals.  The goal is to learn physical and mental relaxation techniques that will:
  1. reduce the general stress level in your body and help find an inner balance
  2. help achieve change in mood and behaviour
  3. enhance your creativeness, reveal hidden resources and help change your life for the better.
Stress Management will also teach you how to prioritise in life, to organise and prepare your every day tasks in order to not be overwhelmed in stressful situations and how to avoid getting stuck in the constant state of stress so common in urban complex society with continuous changes and never ending sensory stimulation

Integrated Mental Training
Integrated Mental Training (IMT) can be efficiently used in Stress Management, in particular in situations where the person is under a constant state of stress or has reached been diagnosed with “burnt out” symptoms. IMT focuses on positive goals, attitudes and images.  It works on the mental processes of thoughts, inner images, attitudes and emotions that can lead towards a better life.  The method offers help for the individual to regain control over his/her life.  Among the positive effects of IMT is an improved self-image, clearer vision of future goals, better sleep, more energy, improved health and an increased level of happiness.

IMT is a system of personal development through the acquisition of certain mental skills, using relaxation, visualisation and self hypnosis techniques.  It was developed in Sweden by Professor Lars-Eric Uneståhl of Uppsala University, based on his research conducted in the 1960s.  The method was first applied in sports, but was later extended to all areas of life.  Sweden was the first country in the world to bring the mental training method to all areas of society and IMT has therefore become known as the "the Swedish Model of Mental Training".

IMT is based on several programmes of pre-recorded material where the individual works at home with the regular guidance of a trainer.  It is a step by step process that first teaches physical and mental relaxation.  Thereafter it works on 1) Self-image training, 2) Goal-images and Motivational training, 3) Attitude and Mental toughness training, 4) Emotional, Social and Life-quality training.
