 NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING (NLP)

NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) was developed in the 1970s by Richard Bandler and John Grinder when they modelled individuals who excelled in their fields and achieved outstanding results.

Why the name?

  • Neuro – this concerns how we think; all behaviour is the result of the information we receive from our senses.

  • Linguistic –how we use language and how it affects us.

  • Programming – this relates to our tendency to use the above to habituate our behaviour

There is no one single definition of NLP and there are many explanations.  Richard Bandler describes NLP as an attitude and a methodology, which leave behind a trail of techniques.

The brain organises the way we think, feel and behave.  NLP gives us tools to understand, at a practical level, how you experience the world and communicate with yourself and others, providing a number of very powerful techniques to enable you to make the changes you desire and bring you the results you want.

Over time, each person's memories, beliefs, values, decisions and interpretations of events that occur, develop into their own unique “model of the world”.  Each of us uses this internal model to make sense of the world around us.  This has a profound effect on our thoughts, behaviour, and relationships with others, because we tend to think that everyone else’s model is the same as ours.

By understanding the structure of our map we can identify negative thought patterns, and limiting beliefs that inhibit us (and change them)
